What is the Marin Alano Club?
The Marin Alano Club was estsblished in 1965, and moved to its present location in 1974. The club provides a clean and safe environment for recovering alcoholics to seek company and support of other alcoholics and to help each other stay clean and sober one day at a time. Some of the facilities at the club are: a game room, television, weekly video tape movies, a recovery tape library, conversation areas, a snack bar where members can purchase meals at a very reasonable cost and obtain books and other materials, and a back yard where picnics and other social and recreational events and activities ouside of the club such as, dances, picnics, camping trip, retreats, etc. The club is supportive of an active coed softball team, but does not directly support it at this time due primarily to financial constraints.

Meetings and Membership
The club provides a meeting room at low cost to groups of Alcoholics Anonymous to hold their meetings which are separate and apart from the club and its activities. Approximately 50 AA meetings are held at the club each week. Newcomers are permitted to use the club and its facilities for the first thirty days of their sobriety as guests of the club. After their first thirty days newcomers are eligible to become members of the club and many take this opportunity to support the club and give back what they have been given. Monthly dues are $15.00, and $8.00 reduced rate available for low income members, but credit is also given for service to the club.
Non-profit organization
The specific and primary purposes for which this club was formed are: To carry on, as a non-profit organization, activities auxiliary to and supplemental to the movement of Alcoholics Anonymous and to stimulate and further such movement by aiding and assisting persons to recover from their alcoholic problems; and as a part of such activities to furnish, provide, and maintain physical facilities for social and recreational uses.(Marin Alano Club, Inc. ; ByLaws, Article 2, Section 1.)
The Marin Alano Club is self-supporting and receives no outside funding from any source, the club is incorporated as a non-profit organization and recevied 501 C 3 tax exempt status in 1974. The club has a board of Directors of seven to nine members which is responsible and responsive to the members, and a Manager and staff of eight which are responsible to the Board.
